Freaky Friday (2018) Plot
So, here’s the deal with Freaky Friday – it’s a wild ride full of magical twists and body-swapping shenanigans!
It all starts with Ellie, her friends Karl and Monica, and this epic school scavenger hunt they call “the Hunt.” Things get a bit tense when Ellie’s brother, Fletcher, pulls off a magic trick that doesn’t impress her at all, leading to a heated argument, and Fletcher ends up taking an hourglass that meant a lot to Ellie from their late dad. Talk about family drama!
Meanwhile, Ellie’s mom, Katherine, is getting ready to tie the knot with her fiancé, Mike. But boy, she’s got a lot on her plate, trying to organize the wedding and take care of everything. And you guessed it, they end up having a massive argument too, with Ellie wishing her mom could understand her, and Katherine hoping Ellie would take more responsibility.
Things take a crazy turn when they accidentally swap bodies thanks to the enchanted hourglass! Yup, you heard that right – Ellie becomes her mom, and her mom becomes Ellie. Imagine the chaos and confusion! They soon realize that to switch back, they must find Katherine’s identical hourglass that she had sold.
Now, with Ellie in her mom’s body and Katherine in Ellie’s body, they face all kinds of challenges. At school, Katherine has to deal with bullies, like mean girl Savannah, while Ellie has to navigate the complicated social scene and even discovers a secret belly button piercing she didn’t know about!
As they try to find the lost hourglass, their lives intertwine, and they start to understand each other better. Ellie even convinces Katherine to put the hourglass on the scavenger hunt list, but it’s not as easy as they hoped. Along the way, they mend relationships, including Ellie’s bond with her little brother, Fletcher.
In the end, the Hunt leads them to a heartwarming realization. Katherine, who’s now in Ellie’s body, decides to stop her wedding to express her love for Ellie, which magically brings them back to their original bodies. Phew, what a rollercoaster!
This flick is all about family, love, and learning to appreciate each other’s perspectives. It’ll have you laughing, crying, and feeling all warm and fuzzy inside. So, grab your popcorn, sit back, and enjoy this wacky and touching adventure of Freaky Friday! You won’t regret it!

Freaky Friday (2018) Review
The 2003 Freaky Friday with Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan is an absolute classic and, honestly, one of my all-time favorite movies. It’s just so well-done and hilarious, and let’s not forget about the amazing actors – 👏👏👏, they nailed it! Now, the 2018 version, on the other hand, was a total letdown. The characters felt dull, lacking depth, and honestly quite boring. Especially the main girl, Ellie – she was such a selfish and poorly written character. Plus, there were inconsistencies in her room and things that just didn’t add up.
Unlike the old version, you never really get to know and connect with the characters in the new one. And don’t even get me started on their attempts at humor – it falls flat, and it feels like they’re trying to force laughs every five seconds. Also, that biology song – what was that all about? It felt so weird and out of place!
The plot was all over the place and seemed pointless. In the 2003 version, we had a clear understanding of what the hunt was, and they set up the whole story so well. But in this new version, it’s like they threw together a bunch of random ideas in a hurry, resulting in one big rainbow vomit of a movie.
And here’s the thing that really bothered me – Ellie purposely trying to ruin her mom’s wedding. At least in the old version, Anna only did it because her mom wanted her to, and you could see that Anna still cared about her mom despite not liking the idea. But this Ellie brat just wants to do the stupid hunt thing that we STILL haven’t been told about properly.
All in all, the 2018 Freaky Friday just doesn’t live up to the magic of the original. It lacks heart, soul, and that special connection with the characters that made the 2003 version so unforgettable. Stick with the classic – it’s a true gem in the world of American English movie history!
