Southbound (2015) Plot
Southbound: The Twisted Highway
Directed by Radio Silence, Written by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin
Welcome to a nightmarish journey on the mysterious Southbound highway. Mitch and Jack, haunted by remorse, are on the run from enigmatic floating creatures. As they speed down the nameless road, the desert landscape stretches endlessly before them.
Their paths collide with a run-down gas station, where strange events unfold as the lurking creatures draw closer. Mitch witnesses the creatures but remains silent, leading the pair further into darkness.
Meanwhile, a band of musicians, Sadie, Ava, and Kim, known as The White Tights, becomes stranded in the same desolate area after their van suffers a flat tire. A seemingly friendly couple offers them help, but as the night unfolds, the band finds themselves trapped in a nightmarish cult ritual, facing their own demons.
In a cruel twist of fate, the events culminate in a tragic car accident involving Lucas, who is unknowingly connected to the band’s fate. The voices on the phone guide Lucas through a twisted path of life-saving surgery, only to ultimately betray him.
The story takes a dark turn when Danny, driven by desperation to save his sister Jesse, confronts demons in a town hidden from mortal eyes. Jesse, harboring a dark secret, chooses a sinister path, leaving Danny to face his fate alone.
The chilling finale reveals the interconnectedness of these harrowing tales. Jem and her parents cross paths with the same creatures haunting Mitch and Jack, leading to a deadly confrontation with shocking revelations.
As the nightmarish journey comes to an end, Southbound leaves us with unanswered questions and a sense of lingering terror. The desolate highway becomes a haunting backdrop, reflecting the depths of human despair and the darkness that lies within each of us.
In the end, as the floating creatures continue to watch from the shadows, we’re left to wonder what other chilling stories might unfold on this twisted highway, where fate and horror intertwine, and the Southbound path leads to the darkest corners of the human soul.
