Stir of Echoes (1999) Review
I absolutely loved Stir of Echoes, a seriously creepy and thrilling movie! It came out around the same time as The Sixth Sense, and in my opinion, it’s totally under-rated. Honestly, I think it’s just as good, if not better, than The Sixth Sense. The story revolves around a married couple and their young son, all living in a house in Chicago. Kevin Bacon’s performance as the husband is fantastic. It all begins when their son starts communicating with a ghost in the house.
Then, after a hypnotic session, things take a chilling turn as Kevin Bacon’s character begins to see the ghost and other unsettling visions too. Kathryn Erbe plays his frustrated wife, who tries her best to help him through these paranormal experiences. As a longtime Chicago resident, I loved the extra treat that the entire movie was filmed in this city.
I won’t spoil the plot, but I have to say that this ghost story and thriller kept me guessing throughout. It’s not a gory movie, but it does have some genuinely disturbing scenes that add to the suspense. If you enjoy being on the edge of your seat, this is a must-see for all you suspense lovers out there! Don’t let this gem slip under your radar; it’s definitely worth the watch.
